Derek Pearce, a sculptor and furnisher designer creates glass coffee tables, but with a twist.

Rather than a usual solid base, he sculpts animals cast from resin and places their faces and limbs to look as if they’re emerging from the water.

Anyone who’s ever been by a body of water knows the familiar look of seeing a ripple suddenly appear and watching an animal slowly emerge its head. Whether it’s a dolphin sighting or a turtle coming up for air, spotting one of these such moments always makes us feel like we’re watching a rare phenomenon in nature.

Called “Water Tables,” the half-inch thick glass represents the water’s surface. Whether it’s a puddle-shaped top or a perfect oval, each floating animal has individual flair, with a silky-smooth surface or realistically textured skin. The results are incredible; take a look below.
